Usually we provide a cremation service because this is the least expensive option. The cremated remains are returned to you after service to deal with as you wish. If you don’t wish to have the ashes returned we can scatter them on Port Phillip Bay from the Tall Ship Enterprize, a journey we make once or twice a year.

Burial or Cremation?

Usually we provide a cremation service.  We can provide a burial service where religious or cultural traditions require it.  However a gravesite in the metropolitan area is expensive — from $3,000 — and we are unable to fund this from our limited resources.  There are other burial options are we ask that you discuss these with our funeral arrangers.

Note that for a burial the family will usually need to ensure there are four to six men available as pallbearers.

The Funeral Service

There are many variations and options.  Our funeral arrangement will discuss these with you.

Some options and services are —

No service funeral

We arrange for cremation and return the remains if required.  No attendance by family is required.  This is often done where a memorial service will be held later or perhaps interstate or overseas.  We can scatter the ashes on Port Phillip Bay.

Chapel Service

One of our experienced funeral celebrants will conduct a beautiful and moving chapel service in one of the crematorium chapels.  It can include an audiovisual presentation of the deceased’s life using PowerPoint.  Where the chapel has recording facilities a video record of the service is available at no extra cost.

Alternatively a minister or priest can conduct a religious service in the chapel.

Graveside Service

For a burial the entire service can take place at the graveside.  Alternatively there can be a chapel service followed by a graveside committal.

Church Service

We can take the deceased to your church where the priest or minister can conduct a religious service.  This can be followed by cremation or graveside committal.  There are additional costs for this type of service.

Coffins

Usually we offer two types of coffin: basic and a higher grade for church services.  The higher grade coffin incurs extra costs.  Please discuss this with our funeral arranger.

Viewings and Dressing

Dressing and viewing of the deceased is possible.  Additional costs are involved.  If required please discuss this with our funeral arranger.

Press Notices, flowers, refreshments

These can be arranged if required.  Additional costs are involved.  If required please discuss this with our funeral arranger.

Special Services

We are able to conduct services with special requirements: Muslim, Pacific Islander, Vietnamese, and so on.  Our arranger will provide details.

Overseas Shipment

We can arrange for a deceased to be sent overseas for burial.  Our arranger will provide details.  This is a costly service and we are unable to fund this from our resources.

Memorial Service

We can arrange a memorial service after the cremation has taken place using one of our celebrants.  A fee applies and there may be venue hire and refreshment costs as well.

Urns

We have cremation urns available for purchase at reasonable prices.  These are many different sizes and types.  Please discuss this with our funeral arranger.
